The Honors Program

Important Note: These guidelines apply to students that have enrolled at The Ohio State University for the first time before Fall quarter 2006. For those students who enrolled at The Ohio State University for Fall quarter 2006 and later, please see the following New Honors Guidelines document (PDF).

If you are interested in participating in undergraduate research, we also encourage you to join the Honors Program. The Honors Program enables you to present your research findings and to be recognized for your efforts. Listed below are the criteria for Graduation With Distinction or Graduation With Distinction and Honors in the College of Pharmacy. Honors students from other colleges are also welcome to pursue projects with College of Pharmacy Faculty.

Graduation with Distintion in the Honors Program

• Participation and completion requires a 3.0 cumulative grade point ratio for all course work.
  
• Completion of original research/scholarly activity under the direction of a faculty member (Assistant Professor or higher) selected by the student.
  
• It is recommended that students participate in honors research for at least 3 quarters with an average commitment of 3 credit hours of PH 693 per quarter. Honors research should be started by Autumn of your final year.
  
• Midpoint review of progress will be conducted by a committee of three faculty members consisting of the research advisor, another member of the division in which the student is performing his/her work, and a representative of the Honors Committee. The review will be in the form of a brief (30 min) meeting between the committee and the candidate at any time during the second quarter of work to discuss the project. For interdisciplinary projects, faculty may be selected from multiple divisions, as appropriate.
  
• Completion of a written honors thesis describing the research conducted.
  
• Oral defense of work before the faculty committee described above.

Graduation with Distintion and Honors in the Honors Program

• Eligibility requires a 3.0 cumulative grade point ratio for all course work.
  
• Completion requires a 3.3 cumulative grade point ratio for all course work.
  
• Completion of original research/scholarly activity under direction of a faculty member (Assistant Professor or higher) selected by the student.
  
• It is recommended that students participate in honors research for at least 3 quarters with an average commitment of 3 credit hours of PH 693 per quarter. Honors research should be started by Autumn of your final year.
  
• Attendance of at least 10 divisional seminars (or appropriate seminars from a graduate student seminar series) as approved and monitored by the faculty advisor.  You can obtain the seminar documentation form here (it is on page 7 of the PDF file).
  
• Midpoint review of progress will be conducted by a committee of three faculty members consisting of the research advisor, another member of the division in which the student is performing his/her work, and a representative of the Honors Committee.
