Every time you try to open Eudora, you're presented with a window saying that multiple instances of Eudora are running with three buttons to choose from: Terminate local instance, Terminate remote instance, and Exit. But no matter which one you pick, none of these buttons will fix the problem.
For one reason or another, Eudora thinks there is another copy of Eudora open and to avoid corrupting your e-mail, refuses to open another copy. This can happen when Eudora crashes or when you try to remotely access your e-mail in a very specific way. To Eudora, it's akin to leaving the phone off the hook... it can't make a call until it's hung up.
Simple... just hang up the phone.
For Windows 2000/XP computers, close the Eudora message window that is currently open, then press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to open the Windows Security menu and subsequently open Task Manager. Under the Processes tab, click on Image Name to sort the list alphabetically.
Look for a process named 'Eudora' (which also may be called Eudora Pro, Eudora Light, etc). If one or more exist, end each process by clicking on the image name and then pressing the End Process button. Do this as many times as necessary to remove all instances of Eudora. Should an instance not close after choosing End Process you may want to restart your computer before proceeding to step 2.
Navigate to the directory where your Eudora mailboxes are located (Usually J:\Eudora or F:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Qualcomm\Eudora or J:\Application Data\Qualcomm\Eudora ). There will probably be a file in that directory called OWNER.LOK. Delete this file. If you receive a message saying that you cannot delete this file, there may still be an instance of Eudora running. Again, if you can't find it in Task Manager, restarting your computer should end all instances of Eudora.
If the file deletes as expected, the problem should be fixed. Try re-opening Eudora and checking your e-mail normally.
If you can't find your owner.lok file, or if you're having other problems with your e-mail please let us know and we'll be happy to help.
