Columbus, capital of the state of Ohio, is a friendly place, with the atmosphere of a small town (actually the 13th largest city in the USA). People are friendly and outgoing. Columbus is ideally situated within a few hours access of most cities in the Midwest or on the East Coast. Two of the major freeways in the USA intersect in Columbus.
For the last ten years, Columbus has been voted one of the cleanest cities in the USA. A few years ago, it even won the 2nd place in the 'Keep America Beautiful' program. All this and other factors such as low crime rate, low unemployment, good acceptance/assimilation of the international community, etc. make it a good city to live in.
Housing on and off campus is available to suit all tastes and budgets. A large number of rentable apartments are situated within walking distance of the School of Pharmacy. The Central Ohio Transit Authority (http://www.cota.com) and the Campus Area Bus Service (CABS) provide free and convenient public transport facilities to OSU students on campus and around the city.
There are plenty of opportunities to shop in Columbus. Food and groceries are available all the major supermarkets. Durable goods and electronics can be bought from the many shopping malls in the city. There are specialty stores for ethnic foods like Indian and Chinese food. Columbus also has a large variety of eateries and restaurants. There is plenty of entertainment in Columbus – ranging from movie multiplexes, performing arts theatres and clubs. The University has its own recreation and sports center as well.
Ohio State is home to the Ohio State University Buckeyes (ohiostatebuckeyes.com), one of America's best college football teams. You can see their home games live at the Ohio Stadium here on campus with nearly 100,000 football fans in attendance.
You can also watch games of the Columbus BlueJackets (bluejackets.com) ,the city's NHL ice hockey team at the Nationwide Arena.
