Division of Pharmaceutics: Location and Facilities

Division Facilities:

Pharmaceutics Graduate Program: Faculty, students and staff of the pharmaceutics program in the College of Pharmacy are located in two adjoining facilities - Parks Hall and the Riffe Building. The pharmaceutics program is primarily located on the second floor of Parks Hall and the fifth floor of the Riffe Building.

The College of Pharmacy is located in the five stories of Parks Hall and on stories four, five, and six of the Riffe Building. These two buildings are located in the Life/Health Sciences complex of The Ohio State University. The College of Pharmacy community consists of approximately 45 faculty, 100 graduate students, 500 professional students, 500 undergraduate students, 20 postdoctoral trainees,
and 30 full time staff.

Shared University Resources: Several specialized laboratory resources are available on campus. These include molecular and transgenic animal facilities, electron microscopy, NMR, and flow cytometry. Faculty and students have access to the equipment in the Campus Chemical Instrumentation Center, including 300, 500, 600, and 800 MHz NMR's and high resolution mass spectrometers.

Library: The College of Pharmacy and The College of Biological Sciences share a library in the Riffe Building. The library has a seating capacity of 250 and holds over 145,000 volumes. In addition, the nearby Health Sciences Library provides access to basic clinical medical reference material. The University library system is the 16th largest in the United States. A state-wide consortium called OhioLink provides electronic access to thousands of scientific journals.

Computer: The College of Pharmacy maintains an extensive computer enterprise, with more than 500 PCs located in offices, student academic laboratories, and in research laboratories. Email services are provided for graduate students. The College also houses networked computer systems and linux workstations for molecular modeling work. Currently, the College also has a subscription to the Celera database for the Human Genome Project.

Columbus is a great place to live! Columbus is one of the nation's fastest growing metropolitan areas and is home to nearly one and a half million people. The community offers residents a variety of cultural, entertainment, and educational opportunities. Greater Columbus is home to a symphony orchestra, a ballet troupe, several art museums, a zoo, and a thriving theater scene. The city is also boasts several professional sports clubs including a National Hockey League team (Columbus Blue Jackets), a popular Major League Soccer team (Columbus Crew), and a minor league baseball team (Columbus Clippers).

Columbus is characterized by a relatively low cost of living for a metropolitan area of its size. There is ample variety in rental apartments, including University sponsored graduate dormitories and married student housing. Columbus enjoys a very low unemployment rate, and jobs are plentiful.
