Neuroscience Outreach: Annual Chili Cook-off

Dr. Jim McAuley is an active member and Chair of the Professional Advisory Board of the Epilepsy Foundation of Central Ohio. The Foundation sponsors an annual patient seminar that focuses on teaching patients about living with epilepsy.

Dr. McAuley is co advisor to the APhA - ASP student organization. Annually the student organize a Chili Cook-off to benefit MDA. This past year efforts yielded more than $15000! In the last ten years student have raised over $64,000. AphA - ASP students have also developed a unique fundraising/educational model. The students choose a healthcare issue which they wish to learn about from the patient perspective e.g. lupus. They invite a patient with that health state to come and speak to the students and hold a pancake breakfast to raise money to donate to a charity benefiting that health condition.

Dr. McAuley has been recognized by the Epilepsy Foundation, MDA and the Columbus Dispatch for his work both the Epilepsy Foundation and MDA.
