International Engagement

General Statement

The College fosters opportunities for international exchange of students and faculty. Both formal and informal agreements exist which allow for internationals to visit Central Ohio and engage in pharmacy teaching and practice and for Ohio State College of Pharmacy students to visit other countries.

International Partners

Honduras

Doctor of Pharmacy students have the opportunity to apply for an elective Advanced Practice Pharmacy Experiences at several clinics serving residents of Honduras. Students are assigned either to a faculty member who accompanies them to the clinic site or to a health-care professional preceptor who resides in Honduras. The students engage in inter-professional health care to underserved patients in the country, arrange for delivery of medications and supplies to the clinics, and provide education on appropriate health related topics to both native health professionals and residents.

London, UK

Doctor of Pharmacy students have the opportunity to apply for and elective Advanced Practice Pharmacy Experiences within the Guys and St. Thomas Health System in London, UK. The hospital and clinic experiences include a variety of medical and surgical services to citizens of the United Kingdom.

Taiwan

The college has formal exchange agreements with National Taiwan University (NTU) and China Medical University (CMU). Ohio State faculty and faculty from both NTU and CMU have visited the respective institutions to engage in pharmacy research, teaching and practice. Videoconferencing is employed to allow for larger groups of students from each country to interact.

Annually, two student pharmacists from the partner universities visit Central Ohio to engage in observational clinical experiences with a variety of community partners and at the Wexner Medical Center with institutional pharmacist practitioners. Two students engaged in pharmaceutical research also visit each year. They are assigned to college faculty and engage in research in the professor's laboratory.

Doctor of Pharmacy students have the opportunity to apply for an elective Advanced Practice Pharmacy Experiences in Taiwan. They experience Taiwan pharmacy practice at both NTU and CMU.
