Dr. Nahata to Receive Helms Award

The Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group is pleased to announce Milap Nahata, MS, PharmD, is the 2009 recipient of the Richard A. Helms Award of Excellence in Pediatric Pharmacy Practice. The Helms Award recognizes (1) sustained and meritorious contributions to PPAG and to pediatric pharmacy practice, and (2) contributions of importance to education, new knowledge, and outreach.

Dr. Nahata is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Pharmacy Practice at the Ohio State University. He is also Professor of Pediatrics and Associate Director of Pharmacy at the OSU Medical Center. Dr. Nahata received a Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy in 1973 from the University of Bombay, a Masters of Science in Pharmaceutics in 1975, and a Doctor of Pharmacy in 1977 from Duquesne University.

Dr. Nahata has made outstanding contributions to the profession over the course of his career. He has previously been recognized with four national research achievement awards, two national distinguished educator awards, and election to Fellow status by five professional and scientific societies. Professor Nahata has received five teaching awards from the College of Pharmacy and one teaching award from The Ohio State University. He has served as president of two national pharmacy organizations: American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy and American College of Clinical Pharmacy. He is also a member of the Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group and a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Pediatric Pharmacology and Therapeutics. Most recently, Dr. Nahata was inducted into the Institutes of Medicine.

The Helms Award will be presented at the 18th Pediatric Pharmacy Conference in Cleveland, Ohio on September 26, 2009.
