Prof. Marialice Bennett Selected for the 2009 Gloria Niemeyer Francke Leadership Mentor Award

Prof. Marialice BennettRecently the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) announced that Prof. Marialice Bennett of Ohio State is the recipient of the 2009 APhA Gloria Niemeyer Francke Leadership Mentor Award which will be presented in April during the APhA Annual Meeting in San Antonio. The award was established in 1993 to recognize individuals who have acted as role models and mentors, promoting and encouraging pharmacists to attain leadership positions.

Prof. Bennett is being recognized for her numerous contributions to the profession of pharmacy including many years of service as a practitioner, teacher, scholar and a mentor for students, residents and junior faculty at OSU. During her time at Ohio State she helped to develop an innovative program for residents and fellows entitled "Teaching Mentor Program and Teaching Roundtables," which now also serves new faculty and graduate students.

Bennett established the OSU Community/Ambulatory Care Practice Residency program in 1996. The residency program has gone from one resident at one practice site to a nationally recognized program of eight residents at seven practice sites, through her leadership and guidance. Bennett has served as the residency director since 2002 and has mentored 44 residents either as a preceptor or director within the program. In 2004 her excellence as a residency preceptor was formally recognized by APhA when she received the first Community Pharmacy Residency Excellence in Precepting Award.
