Pharmacy Students at the National Annual Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) Committee Competition |
Four pharmacy students, Laura Koop, Eleni Lekas, Negin Soufi-Siavash, and Dennis Sperle, along with their advisor Dr. Enrique Seoane-Vazquez, recently placed second in the 8th Annual National Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) Committee Competition. The competition was held by the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) and the Foundation of Managed Care Pharmacy (FMCP) and took place during AMCP's 20th Annual Meeting in San Francisco. This was the second year in a row that the OSU-AMCP Chapter placed second in the National Competition. In addition, this is the fourth year in a row where the chapter was one of eight schools selected to compete in the final rounds.
The P&T competition was supported through an educational grant from Sanofi-Aventis, and $1500 will be contributed to the college's general scholarship fund in recognition of their exceptional work.
The purpose of the P&T Committee Competition is to simulate real-life situations, where formulary decisions are made after a thorough analysis in both clinical and economic aspects. Each team received a drug dossier in mid-November, and the team members were required to answer specific questions, prepare a monograph, and present their final recommendations in front of the judging panel. The team of Koop, Lekas, Soufi-Siavash, and Sperle received first place in the local competition in February, and competed with seven other teams in the national competition in April.
The OSU-AMCP Chapter appreciates all judges and participants in the local competition, as well as the College’s continuous support.
