Dr. A. Douglas Kinghorn of the OSU College of Pharmacy
Dr. Kinghorn is being honored for his continuing high-level contributions in the field of natural products research and for his service as Editor of the Journal of Natural Products. He serves an active role in the American Society of Pharmacognosy (ASP) by furthering natural products sciences.
Dr. Kinghorn discovered numerous biologically active small molecules from plants, in research projects on potential anticancer agents, cancer chemopreventives, oral antimicrobials, and natural sweeteners. Dr. Kinghorn has served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Natural Products and member of the ASP executive committee since 1994. The journal is a monthly publication that since 1996 has been co-published by the American Chemical Society and the American Society of Pharmacognosy. Professor Kinghorn is also a former president of ASP (1990-1991) and first served as a member of the ASP executive committee in 1985.
The initial group of ASP Fellows appointed in 2006 consists of previous ASP "Norman R. Farnsworth Research Achievement Award" recipients (formerly known as ASP Research Achievement Award) who remain in good standing with the Society.
Society Fellows serve as an advisory body to the ASP in scientific and professional matters of importance to the ASP and natural products research. Fellows are also charged to serve as advocates for the ASP and the natural products field.
ASP Fellows hold a special closed session to discuss candidates for Fellowship, as well as other Fellows business at each ASP Annual Meeting.
