The Ohio State University was founded as Ohio Agricultural and Mechanical College in 1870, a land-grant institution under the Morrill Act. The University awarded its first baccalaureate degree and adopted its present name in 1878. Ohio State is a state-supported institution comprising a main campus of 1,713 acres located near downtown Columbus, with regional campuses in Lima, Mansfield, Marion and Newark, Ohio. The University employs more than 3,000 faculty and 17,000 staff members, with an annual budget exceeding $2.7 billion and an endowment valued at more than $900 million.
The Columbus campus incorporates 19 colleges and eight schools including a graduate school. Ohio State offers 174 undergraduate majors, 111 Master’s degree programs, and 93 Doctoral degree programs. Approximately 50,000 students enroll at the Columbus campus. The University confers degrees at every level including associate, baccalaureate, master’s and doctorate.
The University Health Sciences Center includes Colleges of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Optometry, Pharmacy, and Veterinary Medicine and Schools of Allied Medical Professions, Biomedical Science and Public Health. The Medical Center comprises a tertiary-care hospital, comprehensive cancer center and cancer hospital, heart hospital, physical rehabilitation hospital, psychiatric hospital, ambulatory clinics, dental clinics, optometry clinics,
University Health Connection (a primary care clinic located in the College of Pharmacy), and a veterinary hospital/clinics. Comprehensive student health services are provided in the Wilce Student Health Center, located near the center of campus. The Columbus Children’s Medical Center is also affiliated with our Medical Center.
Combined degree offerings include PharmD/MS, PharmD/PhD, PharmD/MBA, and PharmD/MPH. Pharmacy practice and specialty residency programs are available in a variety of focus areas including institutional and ambulatory care emphases. Post-doctoral research fellowships are offered for PharmD as well as PhD graduates. The College’s Outreach and Engagement enterprise administers a number of service and continuing education initiatives. Our faculty exhibits excellence in teaching, research and service. Nineteen of our current faculty members are fellows of various professional/scientific organizations, and ten national practice/clinical science related awards have been received by this group since 1997. Our faculty authored 100 refereed publications and expended $7.48 million for research, with approximately $4.67 million in peer-reviewed grants and contracts received from NIH and other federal agencies in 2003.
The College of Pharmacy is proud of its faculty, staff, students, and alumni, as well as its distinguished history in pharmacy education.
